Brown University Providing Tampons in Men’s Bathrooms Because ‘Both Sexes Menstruate’

Tampons are now a genderless necessity, according to Brown University, who have announced that they will be providing tampons for both men’s and women’s bathrooms across the university this academic year.

The tampons will be delivered to bathrooms by the university’s student president, Viet Nguyen, as well as 20 volunteers, with Nguyen claiming the initiative is a means of educating students that men menstruate as well as women.

One of the largest police force's in the UK is considering letting Muslim officers wear burkas in an attempt to boost diversity

West Midlands Police has said it will discuss letting the traditional Islamic dress - which covers the entirety of a woman's face and body - to become part of Muslim female officers' uniform.

At a recent meeting, Chief Constable David Thompson, said he would consider employing staff who wear a burka as he looks to increase black and minority ethnic (BME) officers in the region to 30 per cent.

The force has already approved hijab-wearing officers and currently allows Sikhs to replace their helmet with a turban.

The hijab - a headscarf covering the head and neck but leaving the face clear - was approved after being requested by a number of Muslim women.

China’s proud 300-year history of female-led mosques is an inspiration to the west

3023.jpg?w=1920&q=55&auto=format&usm=12&

When I informed some of the female imams in Henan, central China, of the opening of women’s mosques in the US and in Europe, most recently in Copenhagen (Female imams make history with a new call to prayer, 27 August), they were delighted. Delighted that their proud history of female-led Islamic institutions, which can be traced back more than 300 years, has proved inspirational. By the same token, a more accurate and nuanced knowledge of China’s unique Islamic tradition (now no longer quite so unique) is called for. There is ample scholarship on the history of women’s mosques in China.

This history is a long one. Its unique manifestation of independent institutions, Nüxue or Nüsi – women’s (Qur’anic) school or women’s mosque – emerged from complex historical and socio-political negotiations over the nature of Muslim identity in the Chinese diaspora and over means to keep faith alive and religio-ethnic identity intact.

The incorporation of women into educational projects during the late Ming and early Qing Islamic renaissance (17th century), inspired by Hui Muslim intellectuals and educationists, was born of the need to bring religious knowledge into families and families into mosques. The growth and consolidation of women’s own spaces of worship, education and congregation were only halted with the religious persecutions of the 1950s, and only hesitantly resumed in the course of less repressive government treatment of religions during the 1980s. Women’s mosques have reopened, or – especially in the Muslim communities of central China – have been built anew, most especially since the late 1990s. Intriguingly, we may observe something like an Islamic resurgence in certain parts of China – outward-looking yet conscious of history, building on proud traditions yet not confined by them – led by a young generation of well-educated and charismatic young female ahong.

A former counter-terrorism officer has claimed the Metropolitan Police ignored evidence of extremism among its officers for fear of being labelled “Islamophobic”.

Javaria Saeed, a practising Muslim, said she had complained to her bosses after hearing a fellow Muslim officer say FGM should not be criminalised because it was a “clean and honourable practice”.

She said the same officer also said female Muslim victims of domestic violence should go to local Sharia courts rather than the police for help except in the “serious violent cases”.

But when she raised her concerns with managers they refused to take action because they were afraid of appearing racist.

Ms Saeed, who worked for Scotland Yard for 10 years, told The Sunday Times she had been demonised by some of her fellow Muslim officers for not wearing the veil and was told she was “better off at home looking after her husband”.

Why we should treat Islamophobia as a public health issue

Islamophobia is widespread. In the 15 years that have followed the Sept. 11 attacks, many Muslim or Middle Eastern Americans have been repeatedly exposed to hate and discrimination in the United States.

...

But there is an effect of all this that has not been widely reported: the impact on health.

Simply put, Islamophobia has grave physical and mental health consequences for Muslims in the U.S. It is a public health issue. Yet, research on the health implications of this is understudied and often ignored by the masses.

We, as Americans, can and must do better.

Anger of PC accused of racism: Officer investigated after telling pro-Kurd protester 'you don't tell me what to do in my country' during clashes

A police officer is under investigation for racism after telling a demonstrator: 'You don't tell me what to do in my country.'

Marcus Tyson was responding to a screaming pro-Kurd activist who told him to 'get out of here' during an ugly clash.

The Metropolitan Police officer, who has served on the frontline for almost 29 years, thought little more about the incident.

But after a video was posted online, he found himself under investigation for racism and could now be sacked for gross misconduct.

Yesterday, Pc Tyson blasted his force for overreacting and described their actions as akin to 'Stalinist thought police'.

He accused his superiors of 'oppressive political correctness' and said many colleagues are 'afraid to do their jobs properly' as a result.

A video posted online shows the Pc being verbally abused by protesters as he strolls along in full uniform, with one saying: 'F*** the police.'

Tyson is then confronted by a woman activist, one of the event organisers, to whom he says: 'You don't tell me what to do in my country.'

In notes taken at the end of the protest, Pc Tyson said protesters were also chanting messages of support for the PKK, a Kurdish terrorist group which is banned in Britain.

He said some were deliberately blocking traffic and he made the comment after moving a woman out of the way of an ambulance.

She then became 'irate' and repeatedly shouted at him to 'get out of here', he claims. He said he responded: 'I'm doing my job, it's a shame you haven't done yours.'

The activist made a formal complaint to the Met on August 20, about which Tyson was notified in writing on September 6.

However, the wording in the complaint does not exactly match the wording of Tyson's comment, which can be heard in the online video.

The woman alleges he said: 'You can't teach me what I can do in my country.' However, the video captures him saying: 'You don't tell me what to do in my country.'

Last week he was placed under investigation for allegedly 'breaching the standards of professional behaviour' by 'using discriminatory language'.

Speaking out after being placed under investigation, Pc Tyson – who is now on sick leave with stress – said the inquiry 'tips over into incompetence.'

'The investigators can't even get the most basic wording right and there's even a video to prove it,' he said.

'The complainant is entitled to make a complaint if she feels there has been some inappropriate behaviour towards her by police or others,' he said.

'Then the DPS are duty-bound to investigate that.

'But the problem then is it would appear to be as if political correctness has completely overtaken the decision making process as to how this investigation is to proceed.

'It is highly prejudicial to have put me on restricted duties.

'There are an awful lot of my colleagues who are suffering from this awful and oppressive political correctness that's infected the professional standards units in all of the boroughs and the DPS Met-wide.

'It means that officers are afraid to do their jobs properly.'

A Met spokesman confirmed Pc Tyson is under investigation. He declined to respond to the officer's comments.
