Cave je pokrenuo inicijativu da se 1 sokache u melburnskom kvartu St Kilda nazove po imenu Rowland S. Howarda.

Music promoter Nick Haines lodged the petition last Friday and has been overwhelmed by the community response, particularly from local businesses and renowned international musicians, including US musician Henry Rollins and Irish hellraiser Shane MacGowan of the Pogues.He said the tribute was inspired by Melbourne City Council's decision to change the name of Corporation Lane to ACDC Lane in 2004.''He really put St Kilda on the map when it comes to music. It would be good to acknowledge a true local who had a phenomenal influence around the world,'' Mr Haines said.Port Phillip councillor Serge Thomann said the petition would be assessed after consultation.''Rowland S. Howard is well loved in St Kilda and the two sellout concerts at Memo Hall two weeks ago as a tribute to the 'Prince of St Kilda' is testimony of his legacy. It's great that people like Nick Cave, Richard Lowenstein, Mick Harvey and many hundreds of others from all over the world have mobilised,'' Cr Thomann said.

A few years ago, he says, he was given a doctorate by the same university he had dropped out of 30 years earlier. "There was some sort of dark energy I was tapping into because I'd failed, I'd basically failed the school that's giving me the doctorate. And as I was stepping out the door to pick up the doctorate, I said so to my mother. And my mother …" His voice trails off. "She'll kill me for saying this, because she's a very dignified woman. But my mother said: 'Head high and fuck 'em all.'" He laughs. "She's 85."
