Poginulo 1000 ljudi i nikom nista.

numbers of traditionally religious Muslims (mostly Shiite), secular Muslims, ex Muslims, and religious minorities. These people have radically different ideas of what Iran should look like from a legal and social perspective. Some kind of compromise between them will be necessary to maintain social peace in a post-Islamic Republic Iran.

In terms of ethnicity, contrary to popular belief, Iran is not a Persian nation. Only half or so of Iranians are Persians. About a quarter are Azeris, just under 10% are Kurds, and just under 10% are Gilaks and Mazenderanis (to focus only on the three largest minorities). To varying degrees, these minorities face economic and social marginalization, political discrimination, and the suppression of their languages.

The regime is unpopular but about 20% or so of Iranians are supportive of it. As are, critically, the people with the weapons and money (IRGC, etc). For a "regime change" to take place, there would need to be defection from the military and other elites, which we haven't seen yet.

I'm actually skeptical that the Islamic Republic is about to be overthrown. If it is, there is a very realistic chance of civil war or partition. It doesn't mean people should support the status quo, but it is something to be realistic about. (And the Western influencers - whether Iranian diaspora, Israel supporters, liberal whites, etc - tweeting about this are not being realistic about the potential dangers.)
