Indy Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Richard Stallman:14 January 2013 (Aaron Swartz's death)Aaron Swartz, founder of Demand Progress, killed himself.Swartz faced the threat of years in prison for what must have been a scheme to liberate scholarly articles published behind a paywall.I didn't know Swartz personally, so I have no knowledge about the extent to which he was depressed, independent of his legal situation. But apparently that alone wasn't enough to kill him.Having a tendency for depression does not mean one is impervious to reality. The reality of the US attack against him surely contributed to how depressed he felt.So we have reason to think the US government drove Swartz to it. This was not murder; the US did not aim to kill him, only to ruin his life on behalf of the copyright industry. But it probably did kill him.
Ima ovde tekst u kome se (izmedju ostalog) o tome prica:https://theconversation.edu.au/internet-activist-aaron-swartzs-death-is-a-tragedy-for-all-of-us-11577 Although JSTOR and MIT did not proceed with civil charges, the US Attorney’s office decided to proceed with a criminal case on charges of wire fraud, computer fraud, unlawfully obtaining information from a protected computer and damaging a protected computer. By November of last year, this had been increased to 13 counts and Swartzfaced a maximum of $4 million in fines and more than 50 years in prison. In effect, this was for little more than violating the terms of reference of JSTOR’s web site and MIT’s network. The idea that Swartz could have profited from these actions or caused damage to JSTOR or MIT was patently absurd.Although MIT was not active in the prosecution of the case against Swartz, they released network logs and security images without requiring a court order or valid subpoena. It is not clear who at MIT would have approved this but the IT department claimed that its actions were necessary to “protect its network”. Given MIT’s often public rhetoric on support of open access, it is particularly sad that these principles were set aside so easily in the case of Swartz’s actions.
Frank Pembleton Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Zavrsi recenicu, please?..Učestvovali u ovome.
Fins fleet Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 ..Učestvovali u ovome.
Aion Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 (edited) Koliko kapiram sad prebacuju odgovornost na IT dep.Ovo je zanimljivije od tih prica:The Best Tribute to Aaron Swartz http://www.kurzweila...to-aaron-swartz Edited January 15, 2013 by Aion
Fins fleet Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 Koliko kapiram sad prebacuju odgovornost na IT dep.IT dep as in admine mreza, nadam se?
Aion Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 IT dep as in admine mreza, nadam se?Ne mogu da nadjem gde sam to procitao.
