Avionski udesi i nesreće

The mystery over the MS804 disaster took a new twist on Monday after it was claimed the pilot carried out a "sudden descent" in a bid to extinguish a fire on board.

Aviation sources in Paris say that Mohamed Ali Shoukair told Egyptian air traffic controllers that he needed to attempt an emergency landing as the plane was filling up with smoke.

According to the French TV station M6  a conversation of "several minutes" took place as Mr Shoukair struggled to keep control of the aircraft.

The claims contradict the investigators' account of the crash as they say there was no radio contact from the pilot before MS804 crashed into the sea.

And EgyptAir officials have denied M6's report, insisting: "[The] claims made by the French TV station are not true. The pilot did not contact Egypt air control before the incident."

Emergency descents can be dangerous as they can cause major changes in cabin air pressure and, it was speculated, may have led to the plan plunging 37,0000 feet into the Mediterranean Sea.

It was not the only controversial theory behind the crash to be of offered on Monday, as a Turkish newspaper quoted an airline pilot as saying he saw a  "an unidentified object with green flashing lights" pass over Istanbul just one hour before the air disaster.

"Then it disappeared all of a sudden. We are guessing that it was a UFO," the pilot told Hurriet Daily News.

Egyptian investigators say it is too early to say for sure what caused the crash.

The Airbus 320, which is the focus of an intensive search after it crashed into the Mediterranean Sea last month, is said to have been forced to turn around and make emergency landings at least three times during the 24-hours preceding the crash.

That’s according to French public television channel France 3. The surprise claims were put to former aviation security official, Jean-Paul Troadec:
“These new findings are an important element for the investigators. We cannot presume to know know exactly what happened on board but it’s not entirely normal to turn around several times after a technical incident without finding anything.”

Warning systems called Acars are said to have signalled an anomaly on board shortly after takeoff from three airports where the Airbus had stopped. These alert procedures were investigated each time with a technical audit on the ground. The findings must have been negative since the plane was allowed to take off again.

Jean-Paul Troadec, however insisted that the Acars signals are emitted automatically only in the case of a malfunction. In normal mode they remain silent.
So far only a relatively small amount of debris has been recovered from the missing EgyptAir flight which crashed killing all 66 people on board.
The hunt for the plane’s black boxes received a boost on Wednesday when possible signals from one of them were picked up by a search vessel.
Without the flight recorders investigators can’t know for certain what caused the plane to plummet into the sea.

EgyptAir flight lands in Uzbekistan after bomb threat

A bomb threat forced an EgyptAir aircraft en route to Beijing from Cairo to make an emergency landing in Uzbekistan on Wednesday, Egyptian officials said.

All the 135 passengers and crew on board the Airbus A-330-220 were evacuated and the aircraft was being searched, the officials said.

The plane landed at the airport in the town of Urgench, about 840 kilometers (600 miles) west of the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, three hours after it took off from Cairo at around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

According to the Egyptian officials, an anonymous caller telephoned security agents at the Cairo airport to say a bomb was on board the flight. The agents immediately contacted the aircraft and ordered it to land at the nearest airport, they said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

In Russia, the news agency RIA Novosti quoted unnamed officials as saying the airport has been closed following the EgyptAir plane's emergency landing.

The incident came nearly three weeks after an EgyptAir flight crashed in the Mediterranean Sea as it was approaching the Egyptian coast while en route to Cairo from Paris. All 66 people on board were killed and the search for the plane's flight and data recorders, the so called black boxes is still underway.

A Singapore Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration 9V-SWB performing flight SQ-368 from Singapore (Singapore) to Milan Malpensa (Italy) with 222 passengers and 19 crew, was enroute at FL300 over the Andaman Sea about 2 hours into the flight when the crew decided to descend the aircraft to FL170 and return to Singapore due to an oil leak at the right hand engine (GE90). The aircraft landed safely on Singapore's runway 20C about 2:20 hours later and slowed down. While passengers broke into clapping and cheering and the aircraft turned off the runway, a spark was seen at the right hand side causing the right hand engine and wing to catch fire, the aircraft stopped on the taxiway, emergency services sprung into action and extinguished the fire, the crew kept the passengers on board while firefighters doused the fire. The passengers subsequently disembarked via stairs. There were no injuries, the aircraft sustained substantial damage to right engine and right wing.
