Meazza Posted April 20, 2021 Author Posted April 20, 2021 (edited) Super League, cracks in the English front: Liverpool is the first to waver from our correspondent Antonello Guerrera (reuters) The captain of the Reds Henderson has convened a meeting with his peers of the Premier. The perplexities of Guardiola and Klopp, the wall erected by Boris Johnson. In the Reds leadership are rising concerns about such a step APRIL 20, 2021 LONDON - Great pressure from fans and the Johnson government would be opening the front of the six big Premier League teams pledged to the Super League. Rumors have been swirling in London since this morning about the possible reconsideration of at least one team involved. There are no official confirmations, but one thing is certain: at Liverpool the spirits are very tense, and in the next few hours there could be important news. Captain Jordan Henderson, in fact, has called an emergency summit with his peers from the other Premier League teams. According to the Daily Mail, it would be a move decided at the last, after the protests of the fans of the "Reds" and the bitter phrases of last night of the coach Jurgen Klopp and midfielder Milner against the Super League after the match against Leeds: "We do not like it and the management has not involved us". Match that has also seen the sensational initiative of Bielsa's team that has worn - and before that left in the locker room of the guests - t-shirts with the words "soccer is for the fans", "you have to conquer the Champions League", in addition to the protests of the fans of the same Leeds against the Liverpool bus outside the stadium. Now even Liverpool executives are scared It seems that doubts are growing at Liverpool about the choice to participate in the controversial Super League. Not only among coach and players: according to rumors, it seems that even a couple of executives of the club (run by the Americans Glazer) are now very afraid of such a step, after seeing the indignant reaction of many fans, outside the Anfield stadium and on social networks. They fear an unmanageable image damage, perhaps underestimating at first the sense of community, egalitarianism and generational glue that soccer has in England, despite the avalanche of money arrived in recent years. Even the Times is certain that "one club" is now very doubtful and is considering ditching the crew of 12 rebellious European superclubs. According to the Guardian, even Manchester City and Chelsea could reconsider "because, attracted by the economic benefits, they had not calculated the other risks of image and in the relationship with the fans: they are the least "fanatical" clubs of the lot". It is difficult to believe in such lack of foresight, but the feeling is that someone is waiting for the other to take the first step. Then, a domino effect of defections is not excluded: it would be complicated for other clubs to stay with the rebels if Liverpool or City let go. England, the polls sink the Super League. Boris Johnson: "I will not allow this horror". from our correspondent Antonello Guerrera After Klopp yesterday, today another top coach like Pep Guardiola has spoken out against the Super League. The Spanish coach criticizes the closed invitation system that characterizes the new controversial competition. "When there is no relationship between the commitment and the result, it is no longer sport," said the Catalan coach on the eve of the Premier match against Aston Villa, "but we are only talking about a statement. There are other people who need to clarify, who have the obligation and the duty to come out as soon as possible and explain to the whole world what the situation is and why they made their decision. Ajax has won four or five Champions Cups and it's not there? They have to explain it to all of us." Guardiola then added, not sparing criticism to the traditional bodies as well: "Arrived at this point, Uefa has failed. They have to give us clarification. We struggled to get five titles in the toughest season ever because of the pandemic and people fought for themselves. Everyone is struggling in this situation. We need to move forward together as much as we can, but at the same time, don't be cynical. Everyone is thinking about themselves, even Uefa." Jonhson reiterates: "I will do everything to oppose". This morning, Prime Minister Boris Johnson met with the leaders of English soccer and reiterated: "I will do everything I can to oppose the Super League". Earlier in the day, in an editorial in the Sun, the prime minister had explained why he will never allow its creation, not least because the Premier League is a very rich and fundamental brand of his post-Brexit "Global Britain." "You don't have to be an expert not to feel horror at such a project, run by a small number of clubs. Soccer is not a brand or a product. In fact, it is much more than a sport. Soccer teams are a fundamental foundation for our society, from generation to generation, and can only continue to be so if the rules are the same for everyone and if merit remains universal. The Super League does not allow this, it would never have allowed fairy tales like that of Leicester or that of two-time Champions Cup winner Nottingham Forest. These are the reasons for my 'red card' to the Super League." Arguably, Boris Johnson is the real, very tough hurdle for the European Super League in Europe. He can't afford to lose the Premier League, because it would be bled dry by its top six clubs. While not a soccer fan, the prime minister is willing to do anything to make the Super League explode. Even passing protectionist laws, as well as measures such as adopting the German model, for which fans must own 51% of the shares of a club, increasing taxes for clubs, vetoing visas for new foreign purchases, restrictions on TV rights. The British government is trying hard to get clubs to reconsider. Otherwise, Johnson is not setting limits: it will be total war on the rebellious teams. The battle has just begun.
Meazza Posted April 20, 2021 Author Posted April 20, 2021 Macron ready to block the Superleague: proposes a European rule Emmanuel Macron. AFP Work is already underway on a European directive that would define the exception of sport, limiting its freedom of enterprise. And the French government confirms: "We will support any action by the League, the Football Federation and Uefa to protect the integrity of federal competitions, whether national or European". After words, actions. Emmanuel Macron's France does not limit itself to condemning the Super League, founded on the absence of the most elementary meritocratic principles in sport, but prepares the fatal weapon to prevent soccer from ending up in the hands of a dozen rich clubs, ready to do anything to absorb rivers of money at the expense of all the others. And they are already working on a European directive that would define the exception of sport, limiting the freedom of enterprise, as anticipated by the newspaper Le Parisien. In practice, even soccer would end up in an exclusive zone with alternative rules to those that regulate commercial activities. An exception already under consideration that France intends to impose during its presidency in the first half of 2022: "It is a matter of identifying European legislation that would allow to reinforce the existing structures," they let know from the Elysée. And although it is not clear whether such an initiative could in fact legally block the Super League, it emerges, however, the determination with which the president of the Republic intends to dictate the conduct in the world of soccer: "We must act even faster than the legislative texts, exerting political pressure and urging Uefa to take radical measures in the coming days." 'They can't exclude us', will it be true? For a Superleague that is born, there is a soccer that reacts hard INTEGRITY- Even from Matignon, the seat of the head of government Jean Castex, clear signals arrive in that direction, with a willingness to consider any means, even legislative, in order to disrupt the launch of the new competition. "The French state - they still emphasize from the Elysée - will support any action by the League, the Football Federation and Uefa to protect the integrity of federal competitions, whether they are national or European". In short, the 12 rebels must prepare for a war that is not only legal, but above all political. https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Estero/20-04-2021/superlega-macron-pronto-fermare-competizione-una-normativa-europea-410325602627.shtml
