vememah Posted June 9, 2021 Posted June 9, 2021 Quote The Delta variant, which was first detected in India, now accounts for more than 6% of all infections in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And this highly transmissible variant may be responsible for more than 18% of cases in some Western U.S. states. https://www.npr.org/sections/coronavirus-live-updates/2021/06/08/1004597294/the-highly-contagious-delta-variant-of-covid-is-on-the-rise-in-the-u-s
vememah Posted June 10, 2021 Posted June 10, 2021 (edited) Kinezi o indijskoj (delta) varijanti: Quote "The variant has a shorter incubation period, faster transmission speed, and higher viral load, making the situation in Guangzhou completely different from the past," said Zhang Zhoubin, deputy head of the Guangzhou Center of Disease Control, at a news briefing last week... Compared with previous cases, the new variant shows a faster speed of transmission and stronger viral load, said Cai [Weiping, chief infectious diseases expert] at Guangzhou No. 8 People's Hospital. According to Zhang, the new variant's R0, which measures the number of people a sick person can infect, ranged between 5 and 6 when the outbreak started, compared with previous variants' R0 of 2-3. As disease control steps were implemented, the variant's R0 dropped to 4.19 on May 30, indicating the effectiveness of the measures, Zhang said. The variant's contagious power is alarming, according to Cai, who said the only contact between [the first case] Guo [who experienced a sore throat on May 18 and was confirmed to have COVID-19 on May 21] and Song [a woman who had breakfast on May 19 at the same restaurant as Guo] was their presence in the same restaurant for breakfast, although they were several meters apart. As the virus spreads, its viral load hasn't shown a significant decline, indicating that the virus is much stronger than it was in 2020, Cai said. Many of the patients in the latest outbreak showed no clear symptoms or didn't feel anything even though their lungs were already infected, Cai said. This makes it more difficult to detect the virus among the public because the previous practice of screening potential patients based on body temperature is no longer useful, he said. https://asia.nikkei.com/Spotlight/Caixin/Guangzhou-battles-a-potent-COVID-variant Edited June 10, 2021 by vememah

Jozef K. Posted June 11, 2021 Posted June 11, 2021 Ovo u Engleskoj ozbiljno raste broj zaraženih.
Koliko vidim nema neki porast smrtnosti. Oko 7-8-10 dnevno vec mesec dana.

barba Posted June 12, 2021 Posted June 12, 2021 .

vememah Posted June 13, 2021 Posted June 13, 2021 Quote Fußball-Bundesliga: Stadium visits without consistent mask obligation led to more infections Press release from 12.06.2021 At the beginning of last season, spectators were allowed in the stadium at many matches in the first, second and third German soccer leagues. A new study by RWI - Leibniz Institute for Economic Research and SDU University of Southern Denmark in Sonderborg examines the impact of these events on corona infection incidence. The result: games in the first Bundesliga that were associated with higher spectator numbers led to a statistically significant increase in new infections. The effect was attributable to those games in which masks only had to be worn on the way to the seat. The most important facts in brief: - Depending on the match, up to 10,000 spectators could enter the stadium on the first two match days of the first to third German soccer leagues of the 2020/21 season - with different local hygiene concepts. - The study finds no significant impact of the games on infection incidence when all leagues are considered together. However, this changes when only the games in the first Bundesliga - and with higher spectator numbers - are considered: These games led to statistically significant higher infection dynamics. - On average, first division matches on the first two match days led to 0.6 more infections per 100,000 inhabitants per day. This corresponds to a local increase in infection rates of about seven to eight percent over the period considered. - The study found significant differences with regard to the mask requirement. According to the study, the effect is attributable to games where masks only had to be worn on the way to the seat. In contrast, games with a strict mask requirement - i.e., permanent wearing obligation even at the assigned seat - did not lead to higher infection figures. - The study compared local COVID-19 infection trends in counties that hosted a professional football game with at least 1,000 spectators with trends in counties that were not home to professional teams. Thus, the study is independent of the practical difficulty of detecting actual infection sites. Previous local analyses, which have shown no stadium infections, only looked at infections where health departments were able to prove the actual site of infection. "The study suggests that sporting events with many spectators pose an increased risk of infection if there is no consistent mask requirement in the stadium," says study author Philipp Breidenbach, deputy director of the Ruhr Research Data Center at RWI. "Good hygiene concepts in the stadium seem to effectively reduce the risk, at least in games with limited spectator numbers." This press release is based on the study "Large-scale sport events and COVID-19 infection effects: Evidence from the German professional soccer 'experiment'" by Philipp Breidenbach and Timo Mitze, which will appear in The Econometrics Journal. https://www.rwi-essen.de/presse/mitteilung/441/ (prevod: Deepl)
