"Mayor in Italian city of Bergamo suggests higher death toll due to coronavirus: 446 residents died between March 1 and March 24, which is 348 above the average (98). Only 136 deaths were officially linked to coronavirus"

Jučerašnji bilans: 257 novih registrovanih, a 485 otpuštenih pacijenata i 18 preminulih.

u Kanadi ozbiljan pad zaraženih. Skoro 3000 recovered juče.

u Peruu isto dosta dobar trend.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Thursday asked officials to look into similar claims that masks were being diverted from his country, calling such reports "concerning."

"We need to make sure that equipment that is destined for Canada gets to and stays in Canada, and I've asked ministers to follow up on these particular reports," he told a press conference.

Ottawa has recognized that its stockpiles of protective medical equipment are not enough to meet demand, as it looks to care for a surge of infected patients and slow the spread of the virus.

Canada has earmarked Can$2 billion (US$1.4 billion) to buy medical equipment while asking local companies to pivot assembly lines to make masks, medical scrubs and ventilators.

"We understand that the needs in the US are very extensive, but it's the same in Canada, so we have to work together to ensure that we can control the spread of this virus," Trudeau concluded.

Sweden mulls U-turn on coronavirus restrictions

Sweden is one of the few European countries that has not yet put the country under some kind of lockdown to combat the spread of COVID-19. The government had demanded emergency powers to change this.

The Swedish government is seeking more powers to implement a lockdown or stronger restrictions on public life, Swedish media reported on Saturday. The move comes as more and more countries around the world implement lockdowns on public life to attempt to halt the spread of COVID-19.

Radio Sweden International reports that the Scandinavian country's government initially sought the ability to introduce emergency measures, when required, without the approval of parliament. But after fierce opposition, ministers say they'll now wait for other parties' approval.

The opposition Moderate Party and the Left Party have demanded that they are allowed to examine and scrutinize any decisions the government makes under the emergency legislation. The government now hopes the new powers will be approved in the coming days.

The measures, which would last for three months, would allow ministers to stop public gatherings, close shops, entertainment venues and limit access to public transport.

More restrictions introduced

Until now, Sweden has shied away from implementing a major lockdown on the same scale as other European countries. However, earlier in the week, the government did add some restrictions to public life through a series of guidelines.

The public was urged to avoid mass transit at busy hours and authorities requested stores to limit the number of people allowed in at any one time. Sports organizations have also been told to cancel upcoming matches and competitions.

A ban on gatherings of more than 50 people was previously put in place.

The Trump Administration has asked 3M Co. to stop sending U.S.-made N95 respirator masks to Canada, the company said Friday. “In the course of our collaboration with the Administration this past weekend, the Administration requested that 3M increase the amount of respirators we currently import from our overseas operations into the U.S. We appreciate the assistance of the Administration to do exactly that,” the company said in a statement.

“The Administration also requested that 3M cease exporting respirators that we currently manufacture in the United States to the Canadian and Latin American markets. There are, however, significant humanitarian implications of ceasing respirator supplies to healthcare workers in Canada and Latin America, where we are a critical supplier of respirators.”

“3M has indicated that it understands how important it is to continue with delivering on orders to places like Canada because there is much trade that goes back and forth in essential services, and it could end up hurting Americans as much as it hurts anybody else,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in his daily news conference Friday.

“That is the point that we are making very directly and have been making for many days now to various levels of the American administration – and that message is getting through.”
