The clocks go back one hour in the south on Sunday however, this will leave one hour’s time difference between north and south Cyprus.

In line with Turkey, the TRNC will not be adjusting its clocks to Daylight Saving Time (DST).

As the north is linked to Turkey via the banking sector, aviation, business and commerce, the assembly also voted to not to implement DST, meaning that there will be two different time zones on the island until March next year.

North Cyprus finally decides to revert to day-light time saving

Finally, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has decided to switch to day-light time saving on October 29, 2017 and observe the European winter time, following series of protest and petition against the continuous use of summer time in the island.

The decision to switch to day-light time saving was taken at Tuesday’s Council of Ministers meeting. According to the decision, clocks will be taken one hour back on Sunday October, 29, 2017.

Previously it was announced that the TRNC, alongside Turkey would not be switching to day-light saving.

In 2016, many people were left confused after the TRNC followed in the footstep of Turkey by deciding to stick with the summer time all year round and not return to daylight-saving (DST), in order to make better use of daylight during the winter period, (by not turning back the clock by an hour) in the autumn following the change in time in other parts of Europe.

This moves led to a lot of confusion and created a lot of problems especially for school children in the darker mornings.

At the time, it's southern Greek neighbors observed the winter time thereby creating two time zones, of one hour apart in the Mediterranean island.

Most of European and North America countries follows daylight time as do some parts of the Middle East, but most of Africa and Asia does not.

Good move in the right direction?
