Tennis match fixing: Evidence of suspected match fixing revealed

Secret files exposing evidence of widespread suspected match fixing at the top level of world tennis, including at Wimbledon, can be revealed by the BBC and BuzzFeed News.

Over the last decade 16 players who have ranked in the top 50 have been repeatedly flagged to the tennis integrity unit over suspicions they have thrown matches.

All of the players, including winners of Grand Slam titles, were allowed to continue competing.

 

 

Eight of the players repeatedly flagged to the TIU over the past decade are due to play in the Australian Open which starts on Monday 18 January.

The findings of the joint investigation included:

 

A US Open champion and doubles winners at Wimbledon were among a core group of 16 players who had repeatedly been reported for losing games when highly suspicious bets have been placed against them;

One top-50 ranked player competing in the Australian Open is suspected of repeatedly fixing his first set;

Players were being targeted in hotel rooms at major tournaments and offered $US50,000 ($73,100) or more per fix by corrupt gamblers;

Gambling syndicates in Russia and Italy have made hundreds of thousands of dollars placing highly suspicious bets on scores of matches — including at Wimbledon and the French Open;

The names of more than 70 players appear on nine leaked lists of suspected fixers who have been flagged to world tennis authorities over the past decade without being sanctioned.

L'information est à prendre avec des pincettes mais le quotidien sportif italien Tuttosport annonce qu'une enquête a été lancée par le parquet de Crémone autour du match Djokovic-Santoro, du premier tour du Masters 1000 de Paris-Bercy en 2007, perdu par le Serbe alors numéro 3 mondial face au 39e joueur à l'ATP. A l'époque, Djokovic venait d'être opéré d'une dent de sagesse et était annoncé incertain pour le dernier Masters 1000 de l'année. Oui mais voilà, le Serbe empochait le bonus de fin d'année promis aux joueurs du Top 10 ayant participé à neuf Masters 1000 dans la saison s'il se déplaçait effectivement dans la capitale française. Défait 6-3, 6-2, Djokovic n'avait peut-être pas tout donné pour remporter la partie. Il est en revanche impossible de dire qu'il l'a truquée.

Djokovic je izgubio protiv tada 39. igraca. Dosao je u Pariz poslije operacije zuba da bi dobio bonus (za igrace koji su odigrali svih 9 master turnira). Talijanske vlasti istrazuju taj slucaj.  Ipak niko ne tvrdi (za sada) da je "prodao" mec.
