David Fincher and Brad Pitt are putting aside everything they're working on to direct and star in a sequel to "Once Upon A Time In Hollywood" written by Quentin Tarantino.

Now Fincher and Pitt working together isn't a surprise; the "Se7en" filmmaker gives Pitt first dibs on all his projects (he turned down "The Killer" for example), but directing a film based on the screenplay of Tarantino, who always directs his own material, is not only an unexpected shocker, it's a cinematic first.

What's more, the project is being set up at Netflix, where Fincher has a first-look deal and aims to shoot quickly this summer.

From what I understand, this is the screenplay that Tarantino's "The Movie Critic" evolved into when the writer/director couldn't put the pen down and kept exploring the adventures of Cliff Booth.

The concept of Booth taking on that role isn't entirely new. Tarantino explored the idea in the 2021 novelization of "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," fleshing out Booth's backstory with a series of solo misadventures that suggested a much darker and more capable side to the character.

As a "fixer," Booth would be the guy studios call when something—anything—needs to quietly disappear. Scandals, blackmail, problematic stars, even bodies. He operates in the shadows, loyal, unshakable, and totally unfazed by the dirt beneath Hollywood's golden surface. It's a natural evolution for a character already written as a war hero, stuntman, and possibly even a murderer.

Unlike the 2019 original, which was a major theatrical release, this sequel will be made for Netflix. Fincher's long-standing relationship with the streaming platform—cemented by his first-look deal—helped pave the way for the project to land there.

Production on 'Cliff Booth' is expected to begin in July, and if all goes according to schedule, a 2026 release is looking likely.
