Macron has been clear

Bruno Bonnell, who is a member of Emanuel Macron’s party, said France would insist on a lengthier time limit to the UK’s exit in order to avoid repeated crises every three months.

“I think that our president has been really clear. Even the last time the UK requested it, it is really the dead-end limit – after the 31 October the game is over,” Mr Bonnell told BBC Radio 4’s World At One.

“Now if – and this door was open before – if we’re talking about a long delay like maybe a couple of years, to re-evaluate the whole Brexit situation in light of the truth… because the bottom line is what people are realising is that they have been lied to.”

He continued: “What should have been harmless for the UK and simple to set up and we see after two years of heavy negotiation we still have no agreement, so there comes a time when you need to put a stick in the ground.”

Bad cop

France has taken it upon itself to be the “bad cop” of the EU when it comes to the UK asking for a Brexit extension.

It had been suggested that senior former Cabinet members, who were last week expelled from the parliamentary Tory party, had received private assurances that an extension to Article 50 would be granted.

But Jean-Yves Le Drian, a senior member of Emanuel Macron’s cabinet, ruled out any further delays due to the ongoing political upheaval in the UK.

“In the current circumstances, it’s no. We are not going to go through this every three months,” Mr Le Drian said.

Let the UK take responsibility

The threat dramatically increases the chances of the UK leaving the EU without a deal on 31 October as all 27 EU countries must sign up to any extension.

“The [British] say that they want to put forward other solutions, alternative arrangements so that they can leave,” Mr Le Drian said.

“But we have not seen them and so it is ‘no’ – let the British authorities tell us the way forward.”

And he added: “Let them take responsibility for their situation, they have to tell us what they want.”

The question of why Wales voted to leave the EU can in large part be answered by the number of English retired people who have moved across the border, research has found.

 

Despite being one of the biggest beneficiaries of EU funding, Wales voted leave by a majority of 52% to 48% in the 2016 referendum – a result that took some analysts by surprise. However, work by Danny Dorling, a professor of geography at Oxford, found that the result could in part be attributed to the influence of English voters.

 

“If you look at the more genuinely Welsh areas, especially the Welsh-speaking ones, they did not want to leave the EU,” Dorling told the Sunday Times. “Wales was made to look like a Brexit-supporting nation by its English settlers.”

 

About 21% (650,000) of people living in Wales were born in England, with nearly a quarter aged over 65. The country voted for Brexit by a majority of just 82,000.

 

Border towns and areas of central Wales with large English communities, such as Wrexham and Powys, recorded a higher proportion of leave votes, whereas Welsh-speaking areas such as Gwynedd and Ceredigion had high remain votes.

 

Dorling’s research, which was presented at the British Science Association’s annual meeting at Warwick University, also suggested that most of the UK’s leave votes did come not from the north of England but the south, with the highest numbers in areas populated with affluent older people, such as Hampshire, Cornwall and Devon.

 

“The Welsh did not want to quit the EU, but that is one of many false beliefs about Brexit. The biggest is that the pro-leave vote was due to northerners,” he said. “It’s true some northern areas were strongly pro-Brexit, but the population there is too small to swing the vote.

 

“The real support for Brexit, in terms of numbers of votes, was in places like Cornwall, which was 57% for leave, Hampshire with 54%, Essex with 62% and Norfolk with 57%. It is those southern English voters that are dragging Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland unwillingly out of Europe.

 

“Everyone blames Wigan and Stoke for Brexit but we should really be blaming Cornwall and Devon.”

A pošto postoji zakon koji primorava Džonsona da traži odlaganje brexita posle 31. oktobra ukoliko nema sporazuma (a nema), Džonsonov plan je privoli bar jednu članicu da taj zahtev odbije (potrebna je jednoglasna odluka svih ostalih 27 članica) - nudi pogodnosti u budućim odnosima za one koji ulože veto. Ako to ne uspe, plan je da posle 31. oktobra sabotira funkcionisanje EU na svaki mogući način (spominje se ideja da se Faraž nominuje za britanskog komesara u EK).

LONDON — Downing Street said Tuesday a Brexit deal was "essentially impossible" following a call between British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Germany's Angela Merkel.

 

An official briefed some journalists that Merkel told Johnson the U.K. cannot leave the European Union without leaving Northern Ireland in a customs union with the EU, which "means a deal is essentially impossible not just now but ever."

 

This is one of a number of calls between the prime minister and EU leaders since the U.K. government published its proposals for a new Brexit deal last Wednesday but the first time a No.10 official has issued such a strong off-the-record briefing to journalists before their EU counterparts.

 

Merkel "made clear a deal is overwhelmingly unlikely and she thinks the EU has a veto on us leaving the customs union," the U.K. official said. "Merkel said that if Germany wanted to leave the EU they could do it no problem but the U.K. cannot leave without leaving Northern Ireland behind in a customs union and in full alignment forever," the official said.

 

Downing Street claims Merkel told the U.K. prime minister that "Ireland is the government's special problem and Ireland must at least have a veto on NI leaving."

 

"Merkel said that the PM should tell Northern Ireland that it must stay in full alignment forever, but that even this would not eliminate customs issues," the official said.

 

"It was a very useful clarifying moment in all sorts of ways. If this represents a new established position, then it means a deal is essentially impossible not just now but ever. It also made clear that they are willing to torpedo the Good Friday Agreement," the official said.

Dobar članak koji zapravo pokazuje limite suvereniteta u globalnom kapitalizmu. 

 

Dok brexitasi idu u prošlost, politički protivnici nisu bili u stanju da daju odgovor čemu služi vlada kraljice u okviru eu, što je dalo municiju brexitasima.
