Snimanje navodno počinje tek dogodine, u podne, ako bude vode

Spoiler

I’ve been emailing and calling a few people about the current status of Quentin Tarantino’s “The Movie Critic,” which we haven’t heard much of an update on for a few months now. Suffice to say, we shouldn’t expect this one any time soon.

Production on Tarantino’s 10th film was all ready to go, with a late September shoot set up and then the SAG-AFTRA strike started. I’m told this “completely derailed” the momentum.

A few actors who were supposed to be part of the film, mostly supporting roles, had to drop out. The lead is still there, I’m told. There is also no firmly set date for production to begin. It seems to be a slow process at this point.

An “early-to-mid 2024” production start in L.A. is seen as the best case scenario for Tarantino’s project. I wouldn’t be surprised if they further delay it to the summer or even fall: “they’re not hurrying up or anything, QT is taking his time and he’ll shoot it when it all comes together.”

Although no official casting has been announced yet, due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, the rumored actors that were said to be part of this film included Kurt Russell, Samuel L. Jackson, John Travolta, Leonardo DiCaprio and maybe Paul Walter Hauser.

“The Movie Critic”, which is set in 1977, received a tax incentive from the state of California to shoot in Los Angeles. Tarantino has described the main character in the film as “Travis Bickle if he were a film critic”. A loner, isolated individual, who happens to review movies for an underground porno magazine.

...a Kurta se nudi za vodonošu :hihi:

I have no idea, I never know. He just calls up or someone calls up and he says hey, and you just go to work. I love working with him and he said a long time ago when we did Death Proof part of Grindhouse, he said “yeah I’m gonna do 10. By the time I’m 60 i’m pretty much going to be done. We had a long conversation about that which was really interesting so I guess he’s sticking to it. He’s since talked about that and I think his reasoning is spot on. If he wants me to carry the lead’s water, I will, I don’t care who it is. I mean he’s just a fun person to work with, quite amazing.

EXCLUSIVE: Quentin Tarantino will be reuniting for the third time with Brad Pitt in the director’s final film The Movie Critic. Unclear if Pitt will play the title character, but I think he is.  I also think Sony Pictures will be back as the studio distributing the film, with Stacey Sher producing and a 2025 release eyed.

Ekskluziva u kojoj se vise nagadja nego sto se potvrdjuje. Iako nemam nista protiv Pitta da opet bude u QT filmu, nadam se da nije tacno da mu je namenjena i sama naslovna uloga.

Quentin Tarantino has decided not to continue with The Movie Critic, Deadline reports. Originally planned to be his 10th and final film, Tarantino has simply had a change of heart and he will not be moving forward with the project. Instead, Tarantino will reportedly be going back to the drawing board to decide what his final movie will be, leaving The Movie Critic alongside his numerous other ideas that never really came to fruition.

Tarantino Canceled ‘Movie Critic' Months Ago, and Then Started Writing A Cliff Booth Spin-Off

April 18, 2024 Jordan Ruimy

A very interesting Tarantino update from THR’s Borys Kit.

It turns out that, initially, Tarantino’s movie was going to be called “The Movie Critic,” but, sometime late last year, he secretly scrapped that film and changed course. He started writing a different film, one connected to “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood,” which would have had Brad Pitt reprising his role as Cliff Booth. Kit’s sources were unclear if it was going to be a prequel or sequel to ‘Hollywood’.

However, this week, Tarantino had ANOTHER change of heart, deciding to put the Booth script on the shelf. Pitt himself only found out a few hours before the news surfaced online. Now, it is said that Tarantino is working on a brand new script.

Jeff Sneider also spoke to multiple insiders on Wednesday night, with one telling him that Tarantino didn’t think the scripts were strong enough to serve as his swan song. “He’s being super picky and gun-shy about what this next movie is,” said one source.

Another suggested that Tarantino was suffering from “genius syndrome, where you’re stuck in your own head.” That is something that many are starting to suspect.

It’s quite clear that Tarantino is putting too much pressure on himself to end his career on a “perfect” filmography. He doesn’t want to fail, which, in my opinion, is something that all artists should go through, at least once in their careers. Without failure, you don’t learn and better yourself as an artist, but Tarantino is being very militant about his self-imposed 10-film limit.

‘The Movie Critic' Was A Tarantino Meta-Verse of Past Characters

So, what was “The Movie Critic” actually about? Depends on which iteration. There were a few versions of the story, THR mentions as many as four different ones.

Early on, confirming initial rumors, the film was going to be about late film critic Pauline Kael. Then it morphed into being about a ‘70s porno rag movie critic — possibly Jim Sheldon — but that was sidelined for a film about Brad Pitt’s Cliff Booth, which, according to THR, would have closely resembled Tarantino’s “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” novelization.

Most intriguing of all, at some point in the creative process, Tarantino had an idea to turn his final film into a goodbye meta-verse with the director’s earlier movies existing in the same era of “The Movie Critic.”

This practically confirms Jeff Sneider’s reporting from last year that involved John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson potentially reprising their iconic roles from “Pulp Fiction.” Kurt Russell was also rumored to be part of this “meta-verse.” I would imagine, although not confirmed, that Uma Thurman might have taken part as well — either as “The Bride” or Mia Wallace.

Other actors namechecked as having possibly been eyed by Tarantino for “The Movie Critic” include Olivia Wilde, Margot Robbie, Jamie Foxx and David Krumholtz. As for Paul Walter Hauser, who was mentioned by scooper Daniel Richtman in 2023, THR says that at one point Tarantino was going to shoot a short sequence in February with Hauser, but a source close to the actor says "he was never involved."

The article hints at how Tarantino was basically throwing everything at the wall in the hopes of finding a final film that would determine his legacy. He tried numerous stories, and characters, but couldn’t quite crack the code.

All of this to say, QT’s salad tossing approach of ideas did not mesh the way he envisioned, and it resulted in his scrapping “The Movie Critic” and now working on another mysterious film.

Nesto tipa Elm Street, onaj kada Hedere Langenkamp igra u filmu fiktivnu verziju same sebe, na to mi ovo lici, ako razumem..
