This evening we have received an advice from building management for our Sydney office.  We have been informed that an employee of another Tenant in the building has tested positive for Covid-19. The individual was last at the building on 11 March 2020.  None of the Tenant’s employees who work on site have shown any symptoms of the Coronavirus. The Health Authorities have been notified and have advised the Tenant that the employee is to be quarantined until a negative test result is provided.
 
In response to being advised of this positive test the following actions have been taken by the Tenant and building management :-

- This Tenant has closed its office temporarily until, at a minimum, Friday 20 March and the office will be deep cleaned in that period.
- The Landlord will continue its heightened cleaning protocol which has already been in place, including cleaning ground floor lobby, lifts and end of Trip facility Sunday evening before the building opens Monday.

 

Inače žena je trebalo da ide na neki sajam u Kaliforniju od sledeće nedelje, pri čemu joj je firma otkazala put za sve njih pre tri nedelje, a sam sajam su Amerikanci otkazali juče. Koncert Pixies ispred Opere od juče (subota) za koji smo imali karte je odložen u četvrtak. Juče ujutro je ćerka igrala košarku ujutro (prvu utakmicu), već od treće su otkazali sve utakmice. Kod sina na borilačkim veštinama (tekvondo + elementi kung fua) instalirali "hospital grade" hand sanitizers, dezinfikuju svu opremu koju koriste između časova, plus ne rade vežbe samoodbrane. Ja sam u četvrtak išao da mi uzmu krv za uzorak drugim povodom, rade dve sestre umesto jedne, jedna samo uzima uzorke za koronavirus, pri čemu to radi već mesec dana, dok radi test stavlja kompletnu opremu (masku za celu glavu, rukavice do lakata i kombinezon), ali ne rade test svima, samo ako si došao u kontakt sa potvrđenim slučajem, ili ako imaš visoku temperaturu i suv kašalj. Nije bilo nikoga za test, ambulanta je mala i u CBD takvih ima na desetine, ne znam koliko testova rade dnevno. Porast je bio 20% dnevo poslednjih dana, juče smo stigli do 249 na nivou Australije. Predsednik vlade (inače jedan mamlaz) je najavio pare za sto montažnih bolnica za smeštaj obolelih, samo ne znam gde će da nađu medicinsko osoblje.

 

Jutros sam nakon par nedelja uspeo da kupim toalet papir - u supermarketima je bila gužva kao za Božić ali je snabdevenost generalno OK, sredstva za dezinfekciju i toalet papir se brzo rasprodaju. Ja sam u Aldiju i Vuliju kupovao po par stvari (žena je juče popodne obavila veću kupovinu), na oba mesta su me ljudi ispred sa punim kolicima pustili da platim pre njih a da im ja nisam to tražio. Radnici na kasama koji skeniraju i pakuju u torbe nose rukavice.

Hundreds of scientists have warned the British government that their response to the coronavirus epidemic is “risking many more lives than necessary”.

In an open letter published on Saturday night, more than 295 academics living and working in the UK backed calls for immediate measures to restrict the spread of Covid-19.

They criticised the UK’s strategy of delaying restrictions in a bid to achieve ”herd immunity”, arguing that it would put the NHS under even more stress.

“By putting in place social distancing measures now, the growth can be slowed down dramatically, and thousands of lives can be spared,” the letter adds.

“We consider the social distancing measures taken as of today as insufficient, and we believe that additional and more restrictive measures should be taken immediately, as it is already happening in other countries across the world.”

The letter adds to the pressure on Boris Johnson to act quickly following confirmation that 10 more coronavirus patients have died, nearly doubling the total in one day to 21. The number of confirmed cases increased to 1,140.

France and Spain have both imposed partial lockdowns, including closures of most shops, cafes and restaurants. Italy, which has the highest number of cases outside China with more than 21,000, is already under total lockdown.  

The government responded to the letter by saying that “we will be instituting our next planned interventions soon.”

“We will publish the modelling and data considered by Sage [the government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies],” a spokesman added. ”We continue to be guided by the advice of the chief medical officer and the chief scientific adviser.”

Meanwhile the Department of Health and Social Care rejected the criticisms stated in the letter. 

“Herd immunity is not part of our action plan, but is a natural by-product of an epidemic,” a spokesman said. “Our aims are to save lives, protect the most vulnerable, and relieve pressure on our NHS.”

The letter has been signed by a wide range of scientists at UK universities, including professors, lecturers and PhD students in mathematics, biology, medicine and computer science.
