Kellyanne Conway’s influence on Trump risesDemetri Sevastopulo in Washington Hillary Clinton received many messages wishing her a quick recovery after she partially collapsed on Sunday. But one came from a very unlikely source: her rival Donald Trump, who had cast doubt on her stamina for months. “I hope she gets well soon,” Mr Trump said on Fox News. A few minutes later, Kellyanne Conway, his campaign manager, told MSNBC that “I would echo Mr Trump’s statement that I just hope she is feeling better.” But Mr Trump was echoing Mrs Conway more than the reverse. When he revamped his team recently by hiring Stephen Bannon, the flame-throwing head of Breitbart News, as campaign chief executive many assumed he planned to continue employing divisive rhetoric. But Mrs Conway, a pollster known for tailoring political messages for women, was hired at the same time and has emerged as arguably the only person who has managed to partly tame the bombastic tycoon. The new campaign manager “has got him under some control,” says Frank Luntz, a Republican pollster. “Anything that keeps Donald Trump from being his own worst enemy is a plus. If that is how you judge success, she deserves an A.” Mrs Conway has succeeded on various levels. She has convinced Mr Trump to stick to a teleprompter script at rallies. She has urged him to talk about helping African Americans and Hispanics, even if critics see this as a more of an effort to woo white Republicans who are repelled by his language. She has pushed Mr Trump to focus more on issues and less on insults. And, most surprisingly, she persuaded him to offer uncharacteristic “regret” for some of his more controversial rhetoric. Rick Tyler, former spokesman for Texas senator Ted Cruz who counted Mrs Conway among his backers in the primaries, says she is a “consummate professional” and straight talker. “Trump probably listens to her more than anyone else in his orbit. On balance he seems to be more on message,” he says. “He doesn’t veer off and create unnecessary news.” A former lawyer and the first woman to run a Republican presidential campaign, Mrs Conway, 49, casts a different shadow from Corey Lewandowski, Mr Trump’s caustic first campaign manager, and Paul Manafort, his former campaign chairman, who lacked a common touch. She has been praised for her television performances, where she sells Mr Trump with a polished, pleasant demeanour and less aggressive style than her predecessors. But her record as a pollster is mixed. She has worked for several failed presidential contenders, including Newt Gingrich, the former House speaker, and the late Fred Thompson, the former actor. In the 2016 primary, she ran a well-funded political group that supported Mr Cruz. One of her more controversial roles was working with Todd Akin, the Missouri senate candidate who claimed that women who were the victims of “legitimate rape” could not become pregnant as their reproductive process would shut down following the attack. Mrs Conway grew up in a Democratic household, raised by her single mother. After law school, she got her start working for a pollster for Ronald Reagan and later set up her own firm, “The Polling Company/WomanTrend,” in 1995. In 2005, she co-authored a book with a Democratic pollster called What Women Really Want. This is her first test as a campaign manager, however. Whit Ayres, a Republican pollster, says the last pollster to run a presidential campaign was Robert Teeter who ran George Bush’s unsuccessful re-election race in 1992. “She has at least worked in campaigns before, which is unlike all [Mr Trump’s] children and Bannon. But . . . I always believe that you ought to stick to what you’re good at and what you’ve done before,” says Mr Ayres. “She has tended to work for more anti-establishment candidates like Ted Cruz, but beyond that I am not sure that there is any particular expertise, unless she can figure out how to manage Trump, which would be a unique skill set.” Mrs Conway may help Mr Trump expand his appeal, but she is under no illusion about the task. After she assumed the role, she said Mr Trump had a narrow path to the 270 electoral college votes needed. “I’ve one (path) that’s got us at 284, one that’s got us at 270-plus,” she told MSNBC. “Not a lot to spare.” She gave a bleaker assessment before joining the team. In March, she said Mrs Clinton had a problem with men that would block her path to the White House unless she faced Mr Trump, arguing that his popularity with white men would be erased by his unpopularity with women. Writing in the Washington Post in 2012, Mrs Conway said “women gravitate towards candidates who seem pleasant and positive”. That is important advice for Mr Trump since women made up 53 per cent of voters in 2012 and a recent Washington Post/ABC poll found that Mrs Clinton holds a 52-37 point advantage with women. “White men dismiss, dislike and distrust her and don’t want her to be commander-in-chief and president,” Mrs Conway said on The Charlie Rose Show in March. “She has significant disadvantages in the fall . . . unless Donald Trump is the nominee.” Speaking at a recent Trump rally in Austin, a lawyer named Perrin who was attending his first rally in 24 years, said “I love her” about Mrs Conway. “I like what she has done to moderate some of his behaviour. I had tough times getting on board (before)”.
Dr Arslanagić Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 "Donald Trump is a deplorable candidate — to put it charitably — and anyone who helps him advance his racial, religious and ethnic bigotry is part of that bigotry. Period. Anyone who elevates a sexist is part of that sexism. The same goes for xenophobia. You can’t conveniently separate yourself from the detestable part of him because you sense in him the promise of cultural or economic advantage. That hair cannot be split. Furthermore, one doesn’t have to actively hate to contribute to a culture that allows hate to flourish. It doesn’t matter how lovely your family, how honorable your work or service, how devout your faith — if you place ideological adherence or economic self interest above the moral imperative to condemn and denounce a demagogue, then you are deplorable."

Budja Posted September 14, 2016 Posted September 14, 2016 Da uzece cak 5%. 5% u Masacusetsu, mozda.
