Komsiluk se lepo naoruzao: If you're not sure gun sales have hit a new record high, look no further than the crowded parking lot of Adventure Outdoors in the Atlanta suburb of Smyrna. The gun super store sold twice as many firearms last month as they did in December of 2010.They've been so successful, they recently more than doubled their floor space by moving into a former supermarket."I just think that they've become more popular than they used to be and people are purchasing," owner Jay Wallace told 11Alive News on Monday.According to the FBI, December of 2011 set a record high for gun sales in the U.S. with more than 1.5 million background check requests from dealers. That doesn't include sales between private owners.Wallace isn't sure if the surge is thanks to a fear of tougher gun control laws or a fear of growing crime...or both. The latter is why customer Jerry Green of Douglasville was paying a return visit with his teenage son."People are desperate these days with the economy; there's a lot more robberies due to that and we just feel like we need to have ourselves protected in case something does happen," Green said. Those who favor stronger gun control laws, like New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, say too many legally sold guns end up being stolen or resold on the black market.Mayors Against Illegal Guns claims nearly 28 percent of the weapons sold in Georgia end up at a crime scene within two years. It so happens New York's Mayor is still tangled up in a 5 year legal battle with Smyrna's Adventure Outdoors over tighter gun control. So far, their continuing court struggle has been a draw.
