A shadowy private security company with deep links to the
CIA
- and a parent company awarded hundreds of millions of dollars in Australian government transport contracts - is operating a pervasive global surveillance and facial recognition network on behalf of law enforcement.
Over the past few days the internet has been abuzz with revelations regarding
TrapWire
, an analytical system that integrates with surveillance cameras to capture photographs or video evidence of "suspicious activity". TrapWire is owned by the multinational conglomerate,
Cubic Corporation
, which in 2010 signed a $370 million contract with the
NSW Government
to provide Sydney's electronic ticketing system for public transport, based on the London Oyster card system. In April this year it was awarded a $65 million contract to provide services to CityRail and also runs the Brisbane "go card" system. Fairfax is seeking comment from the government about whether there has been any consideration of bringing the TrapWire system here. The TrapWire story began late last week, when emails from a private intelligence company, S
tratfor -
originally released as part of
WikiLeaks's Global Intelligence Files
in February - appeared online. The emails and other documentation revealed TrapWire is installed in some of the western world's most sensitive locations - including the White House, 10 Downing Street, New Scotland Yard, the London Stock Exchange and five hundred locations in the New York subway system. Trapwire is also installed in many Las Vegas casinos.

The move came shortly after his last appeal against deportation to Sweden to face questions over accusations of sexual molestation was rejected by the UK's Supreme Court [4]. The Ecuadorian government is still considering the issue. There have been reports that the attacks are an attempt to halt the latest information dump from WikiLeaks of emails from hacked security consultants Stratfor. The latest batch focus on a little-known state monitoring system dubbed Trapwire [5].The system is a conspiracy theorist's wet dream. Developed by ex-CIA employees by government security contractor Abraxis, Trapwire uses software algorithms and data from multiple surveillance sources, including facial recognition, to help predict criminal activity.Details from the Stratfor emails show its use is far more widespread than previously thought, with all an executive saying every high-value target in UK, US and Canada was now covered, as well as the cities of London, New York, Los Angeles and Las Vegas."I want to make it clear to all the conspiracy theorists out there that we have nothing to do with the United States Government or Trapwire," DietPepsi wrote, when questioned on the matter. "We find it quite humorous to read all these Twitter comments from people who suspect us of being NSA/CIA/FBI/or even WikiLeaks themself," and posted a similar statement online the following day.On the face of it this seems fair. The DDoS attacks on WikiLeaks began on August 3, but WikiLeaks didn’t start publishing emails relating to Trapwire until after that date. As late as August 7 WikiLeaks itself didn’t seem to rate the idea very highly.

Bolest mozgaUPDATE: Britanska policija ulazi u ambasadu, live feed ovde

(Reuters) - Britain on Wednesday warned Ecuador that it could raid its London embassy if Quito does not hand over WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who has been taking refuge at the mission since mid-June.In Quito, the Ecuadorean government said that any such action would be considered a violation of its sovereignty a "hostile and intolerable act.""Under British law we can give them a weeks' notice before entering the premises and the embassy will no longer have diplomatic protection," a Foreign Office spokesman said. "But that decision has not yet been taken. We are not going to do this overnight. We want to stress that we want a diplomatically agreeable solution."In Quito, the government bristled at the threat and said it would announce its decision on Assange's asylum request on Thursday at 7 a.m. (1200 GMT).
