Kad smo kod politicki angazovanih 80-tih, vrlo zanimljiva prica o cudnom hitu "The Lebanon" pomenutih The Human Leaguehttp://youtu.be/YbkCyFEFa78

Although they did manage a fluke hit with the Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis production "Human" two years later, the Human League's career fell apart with the scattered, underwritten album Hysteria and its somewhat bewildering first single, "The Lebanon." The song was co-written by Phil Oakey and Jo Callis, and former Rezillos mainstay Callis seems to have been in the driver's seat musically: rather than the synth pop that had made the group's name, "The Lebanon" is built on a bass riff hugely indebted to Peter Hook of New Order/Joy Division fame, along with Callis' own single-chord distorto guitar riffs. In other words, it's a pretty good post-post-punk dance-rock song (somewhat ironically given the title and lyrics, it sounds quite a lot like Siouxsie & the Banshees' 1981 single "Israel"), but it didn't sound a bit like the Human League, especially to the American fans who only knew of them starting with the bright and shiny Dare! Similarly, Oakey's lyrics are a lot less awful than on many similar political rock songs, looking at the early-'80s military operations in Lebanon (in one of those oddities of language, the country is known as The Lebanon in the United Kingdom, which made the title somewhat confusing to the U.S. market), first from the point of view of a local woman and then from that of one of the occupying soldiers; neither has any idea what exactly is going on or why, and rather than search for answers, or make up some of his own, Oakey simply leaves that feeling of dread and incomprehensibility hanging. Of course, this would not do for go-go America in the Reagan and Rambo age; add in that this style of music was still relegated to college radio in early 1984 -- and that college radio had already dumped the Human League once "Don't You Want Me" became a mainstream pop hit -- and it's obvious why "The Lebanon" couldn't catch a break.

Sad guglam.
