Kako mora:

Kim Jong Un’s New Year Day Address (신년사) was very positive and optimistic, focusing on advances in education, light industry, consumer economy, science, agriculture, forestry, culture, sports, and development of infrastructure. First mention of the military didn’t come until 20 minutes in, focusing on military struggling to maintain peace on the peninsula and the world. Lots about North-South relations and the need to move forward for a peaceful future together, proposing a reopening of Kaesong and Kumgangsan tours. Little bit about Singapore, which he said was a turning point for US-DPRK relations, which he hopes will improve further. He expressed a desire to meet Trump again in the near future and promised to work hard to have a better relationship with the USA, and to get a real peace treaty instead of the current armistice.

Solidan dokumentarac.

Lunch box index? Food quality on the rise in North Korea

The average quality of lunch food being eaten by residents mobilized in this year’s “manure battle” has noticeably improved, North Korean sources report.

Average household income in North Korea has continued to rise following the spread of marketization throughout the country. This appears to have had a direct effect on the content in worker’s lunchboxes, particularly with more white rice and better side dishes.

“A lot of people mobilized in the manure battle this year are bringing lunchboxes to work,” said a South Hamgyong Province-based source. “Most people have noticed that the general quality of food has improved a lot.”

The light and shadows of the Korean Peninsula

"In fact, research shows that such behavior patterns focused on consumption can have profoundly destructive effects on society as a whole including deep alienation and increased levels of suicide and substance abuse. That is to say that the assumptions about what North Korea should become, and what South Korea has been successful at, are based on ideology, on unfounded assumptions and on a myth of modernity. The result is that South Koreans are convinced that they are successful even as profound stress and frustration sweep through families."

"So what should South Korea do if it wants to survive? The answer is quite clear. It should start looking more like North Korea in terms of energy consumption and frugality. It should stop wasting energy and be dark at night, the way it has been for tens of thousands of years. It should get rid of all the useless lights on apartment buildings, end those electrified signs on commercial buildings, reduce dramatically unnecessary internal heating and end the wasteful design of high ceilings and concrete, glass and steel exteriors found in its buildings. It should go back to the traditions of frugality and simplicity that characterize much of its history."
